On a hilltop square with a beautiful view over the city, this church, like the Battistero, is a superb example of Fiorentine Romanesque architecture. The faeade in white and green marble has a geometrical design; below, there are five round blind arcades on Corinthian half-columns, and above, a niche window surmounted by a 13th-century mosaic. The interior has a centrai nave and two side aisles, columned, with beamed roof and raised choir above the crypt. At the end of the nave, with its fine marble inlay floor, is the Cappella del Crocifisso by Michelozzo , with glazed terracotta vault by Luca Della Robbia and painted panels by Agnolo Gaddi at the altar. The presbytery, behind a imarble screen, has a pulpit dating. In the beautifully arcaded, a magnificent 13th-century mosaic :showing Christ between the Virgin and St Minias. The crypt with six rows of slender columns has frescoes by Taddeo Gaddi (1341) in parts of the vault.
